Let's Write!

Option #1:

What is summer like for you?  Is it energizing?   Do you find yourself surrounded by family and activities more?  Does summer evoke certain smells and   Do you have favorite memories, poems, stories or photos to share that will inspire us to write?

Option#2

What are you "on fire" about this summer as far as teaching goes?  Will YOU write more?  Will your students write more?  Will you try a new kind of writing or a new kind of lesson you never tried before?

These are just the beginning, of what I hope will be a beautiful writing relationship with you.  We want inspiring people to assist us in getting us to write and collaborate more.  This is YOUR forum!

Please send all contributions, writing and photos to:  wallacek2004@yahoo.com , and I will post them before Sunday for all to see.  If you have specific photos of fellows unrelated to these topics to share, then please send those to me as well so I can put them on for you.

WRITE ON!

Poem in your Pocket - Ways to Celebrate and Share Poetry!

For writers!

POEM IN YOUR POCKET - GREAT IDEAS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!

FROM WWW. POETRY.ORG Celebrate the first national Poem In Your Pocket Day!

The idea is simple: select a poem you love during National Poetry Month then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, and friends on April 17.

Poems from pockets will be unfolded throughout the day with events in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces, and bookstores. Create your own Poem In Your Pocket Day event using ideas below or let us know how you will celebrate Poem In Your Pocket Day by emailing npm@poets.org.

Put Poems In Pockets

In this age of mechanical and digital reproduction, it's easy to carry a poem, share a poem, or start your own PIYP day event. Here are some ideas of how you might get involved:

·  Start a "poems for pockets" give-a-way in your school or workplace

·  Urge local businesses to offer discounts for those carrying poems

·  Post pocket-sized verses in public places

·  Handwrite some lines on the back of your business cards

·  Start a street team to pass out poems in your community

·  Distribute bookmarks with your favorite immortal lines

·  Add a poem to your email footer

·  Post a poem on your blog or social networking page

·  Project a poem on a wall, inside or out

·  Text a poem to friends

Writing Retreats

Hello there!  I trust the holidays have been wonderful and that you find your life slowing down some.  Now, you're ready to create!   I have been "exploring" and have some fun writing retreat places you might enjoy for either reading them or writing them.  Sometimes our writing just deserves a little spark to shoot off an amazing array of fireworks...so here's what I've found:

READ WRITE POEM - There are some fun poetry prompts as this site, as well as a random word generator to get you started.  They have put together reading and writing poetry tips, as well as tips on collaboration of poetry.  One of the ladies, Jessica is is a lover and reader of poetry and does a cool poetry book club.  She often puts together poetry groups and has done some magazine articles, as well as establishing some personal collections of poetry from writers on line.  check it out at: http://readwritepoem.org/

BIG A LITTLE a    http://kidslitinformation.blogspot.com/        This is an on-line journal for Children's literature.  They also have Poetry Fridays...

Fiction Fridays -  http://www.take2max.com/writing/fiction-friday/ - These guys have fun prompts for characters and stories.  It is also the host of the CREATIVE CARNIVAL - a place you can witness ore submit creative works under various categories, including ficiton and non-ficiton and others!

If you are looking for something local, The Write Path, hosted by Sue Reuling Furness, has various classes available to write and bring out your creativity...there are even classes for healing through writing.  Check out her site at:   http://www.writepath.org/class_schedule.asp

AND DON'T forget Jerry Hendershot's writing retreat in Lowman!  Download writers_retreat2.ppt

There are many more writing adventures to come.

Enjoy your writing!

National Writing Month

Here's a challenge for you "Writing" project fellows!  Since we are writers, and it is good to practice our craft, I thought I'd issue you a challenge to try to write a thousand words a day or even a thousand words a week (since I know we're really busy these days.)  The challenge for the project is to write a novel, no editing (that's for December)...and write even if you don't have a plot or a good story in mind...just go with the flow and see where your writing takes you.  Natalie Goldberg is a big fan of writing without editing.  I believe this kind of writing to be authentic, fresh and inviting.  The characters are more vibrant too.  Come on, "I DARE YOU!"  Yes, I shall do it too.

P.S.  If you want to post any trials or good lines or favorite chapters you've written for an audience, we're here for you!  Let me know, and I'll post it right away!

For more info or to find groups in your area, there aren't  many.  We could start them!

Spontaneous Writing Booths

Well, it's been a bit...I hope you have started your new school year off well and that you are getting your class well on their way.  Now, it's time to take time for yourself.  Why not rejuvenate through writing?

I have a fun place to try...or an idea to try, it's called  a spontaneous writing booth.  It sounded like such a cool idea!  Basically, it's free writing on whatever topic someone chooses.  You can go here to find out a few ways it's been tried and to check out the site and what she does.  Maybe it's something you may enjoy...it'll get your creative juices flowing...hey, maybe a bit of poetry?

Speaking of poetry, there's been a group of us poet bloggers at a site called Poetry Thursday.  That site is currently closing, and we've become poetry gypsies, landing wherever we can.  But, once a week, we are committed to writing a poem, and sometimes we try a challenge.  One of the challenges for our group, and hence, I'm passing it to you is Confront your fear.  You can read about the challenge here, and also read some good poetry while you're there.  Basically, is there a form of poetry you haven't tried, what's holding you back?  Have you always wanted to publish something and been afraid to turn it?  Try it!  There are a couple of ways you can take on this challenge or invent your own challenge.

Anywayzzzzzzzzzzzzz....happy writing!  Let's keep this community together!  Together, we thrive and stay alive!

Magic Monday - Your Writing Elixir

Well it's Monday...a good day to post what's new here at the Writing Project site.  Today, we have some featured writers for you to feast upon; a writing site to visit if you want join a more formal writing group; and a writing challenge for short story writers....

Today's featured writers are Jeffrey Roper, BSWPer '06 - an inspirational story about a teacher who makes a difference called "Mrs. Dickinson's Feet"; Joseph Stevenson- Summer Fiction Institute '07- treats us with another inspirational story about lighting a candle in the dark (good beginning of hte year story); Mandy Hardan - Summer Fiction Insitute '07 - has a humorous story about a vacuum cleaner chasing her.

If you are interested in writing groups investigate "The Write Path," (click on the link) with some amazing writing groups that are fun to join.  Sue Reuling-Furness is a certified poetry therapist and psychologist.  There is a fee for the groups, but it's worth every penny.  There are scholarships available for those in need...  You can find a schedule on the web-site as well as links to her poetry and what she is doing with groups.  One of the services she provides is poetry therapy (recommended even for those who want to explore themselves as a person.)  What I love about Sue's groups is that there is tremendous confidentiality, low risk because there is no critiquing, and a time slot that you commit for yourself to just write.  She provides a plethora of styles and formats to write about and explore. (No you don't have to write poetry.)  This is a five star place to write. She also offers a free sneak peak at Barnes and Nobles once in awhile on a Monday night if you want to give it a try.  If you are a friend of The Log Cabin, you might have seen her work or heard of her.  They are having a fun Mad Hatter Tea Party to assist with sponsoring people in the Write Groups.  It proves to be a lot of fun.  Here is your invitation!  (There is a more detailed version attached to the e-mail I sent out.)

Fiction Friday (there's a new challenge posted), a place I featured last week, is having a short story contest if you are interested.  It might be fun to try even if you don't enter.  Here are the site rules and regulations.  Entries begin August 31st.

Enjoy the beginning of your glorious school year...and happy writing to all!  Remember, even when it gets tough, wrting gets you through it all.
